Product Description

Lucy's name means, "light" and she is the patroness of blindness and eye trouble. The statue depicts Lucy holding a dish with two eyes on it, representative of when her eyes were taken out at her death, and the lilies represent her virginal purity. Made of American chalk composition, the statue stands 24" tall and it is hand-painted with brilliant colors and detailed facial features. This gorgeous statue of St. Lucy will help you remember to always keep your eyes focused on heaven.

St. Lucy was a brave woman who lost her Life during the persecution of Christians in the early fourth century. Her veneration spread to Rome so that by the sixth century the whole Church recognized her courage in defense of the faith. Lucy consecrated her virginity to God, refused to marry a pagan, and had her dowry distributed to the poor. Her would-be husband denounced her as a Christian to the governor of Syracuse, Sicily. Miraculously unable to move her or burn her, the guards plucked out her eyes before they killed her with a sword. Saint Lucy’s Feast Day is December 13th.
